Filme Rio-Rio Film Commission (FR-RFC) president Steve Solot will attend the European Film Market at the 62nd Berlin Film Festival, February 9 to 19. It is one of the world’s most important film festivals. In Berlin, the Association of Film Commissioners International (AFCI) will organize a gathering of producers, film executives and association members – one of which is the FR-RFC. The idea behind this meeting - ‘Co-operative production: Focus on Berlin’ – is to discuss the logistics of choosing locations for audiovisual production while taking into consideration each work’s budget, and the ways film commissions can contribute to this process. Solot will be at the panel discussion alongside Conspiração Filmes producer Leonardo Monteiro de Barros and representatives from the United States, Germany, Canada, France, the Netherlands and Taiwan.

“Filme Rio-Rio Filme Commission is changing, for the better, the paradigm of the interface with the public sector for film production”, is Barros’s take. “Any film shoot requires a relationship with the state government and City Hall to define the production logistics and this relationship is getting better and better thanks to the FR-RFC. This is what I want to present to the other representatives in Berlin”.

The participants will also explain how the relationship with the AFCI can bring down costs of an audiovisual production and influence production decisions. Film Commissions from the world over build relationships that may help support film shoots. They also explore ways of expanding and diversifying their services and incentives to local and international producers.

“The FR-RFC feels honored for being the only film commission from Latin America chosen to be at this panel discussion”, celebrates Steve Solot. “Plus, it is central that the Rio Film Commission be at the EFM, the year’s first international market and an event that brings together important players from the audiovisual sector of several countries. Our main goal at the market is to meet with producers so as to attract their projects to the city and state of Rio de Janeiro”, emphasizes Solot.
