FRRFC launches discount card in stores in Rio de Janeiro to be granted and used by production staff members
FRRFC launches discount card in stores in Rio de Janeiro (Vânia Laranjeira)
Within the strategy to promote the city and the state of Rio de Janeiro as a prime location for audiovisual productions, Rio Film Commission (FRRFC) throws a benefit to producers: the FRRFC Discount Card, which grants staff members with more competitive prices in commercial establishments - such as restaurants, hotels, equipment and car insurance or rental stores. The card must be requested by the local producer, and the discount amount will be determined by the establishment owner. There will be no limit on emissions of the card, but it will be valid only during the filming process, whether they be domestic or foreign productions. Also, there will not be restrictions on genre or format: productions of full-length, medium and short films, TV series, documentaries, music videos, web series, animated films, commercials etc can participate.
With this initiative, FRRFC intends to promote the city and state not only for the beautiful landscapes and scenery, as explained by Steve Solot, president at the agency created in 2009 through a partnership between the municipality of Rio and the state government:
"This new initiative aims to promote Rio de Janeiro as a place that also offers hospitality and incentives to support film projects in all genres. It's one more action in our campaign to consolidate the city and the state of Rio de Janeiro as a competitive destination for international audiovisual productions", said Solot.
It is a benefit not only for producers but also for the registered establishments, which, with the card, attract more consumers and help boost Rio de Janeiro as a destination for audiovisual productions. Inspired in the New York model, FRRFC Discount Card is a breakthrough experience in Brazil.
To join the program, establishments must complete a form found on the FRRFC website and describe the nature of their services and benefits to be offered. Production teams also use the website to complete the Registration of Production and Application for the Discount Card. FRRFC will examine each application. Producers can also access online the list of affiliate stores and their respective benefits.
Requests must be made at least two weeks before filming begins. FRRFC will determine the amount of cards to be granted, according to certain criteria such as number of working days, crew size, shooting locations. For each new film by the same production company, new cards must be ordered. Both application and acquisition of the cards are free of charge.
